Fish In The Water

Anne walks to the park and stares at the water -  it's soft tide captures her attention and she peers close.  Bubbles rise, then foam rises, and then a fish pops its head out of the water!  Anne smiles.

"Is that my prince charming?"  she asks.

The fish swims back under the water.

"What are you staring at Anne?"  asks Lyca as she approaches with ice-cream.

"A fish!"  tells Anne.  "It poked its head out from under the water!"

"I see no fish!"  tells Lyca as she peers at the water and sees calm.

"It was there!"  tells Anne.  "Give me an ice cream, I will show you!"

Lyca shrugs and hands Anne one ice cream.  Anne picks off some wafer and throws it into the water -  the wafer bobs on top of the water calmly and grows larger as the water expands its wafer cone shell.

"There's nothing there;"  tells Lyca as she shrugs.

"It is there!"  gasps Anne.  "Wait!"

The two sisters glare at the wafer and wait for the fish to show -  it does not come out of the water and Lyca snorts.

"Oh well... who cares?  Let's go and sit somewhere!"  she invites.

"How about we sit here?"  tells Anne.  "The fish will show!"

Lyca rolls her eyes off a patch of sunlight that covers a small hill crested by a tree and she looks at the damp grass under her feet.  Slowly she sits, wishing she had brought a picnic mat to sit on as the dew on the grass seeps into her clothes.

"I can't believe you want to sit here!"  tells Lyca as she rolls her eyes.

Anne glares at the water disinterested, and at times she throws more cone to invite the fish out of the water!  Birds approach to eat the cone portions, but fly away when Anne throws the blob of ice-cream into the water.  Lyca laughs.

"What a waste of ice-cream Anne!"  she tells as she glares at her sister.  "It's just a fish!  I'm sure it's gone to the bottom of the pond!"  she adds before she licks her own ice-cream.

"I'm sorry!"  tells Anne as she sulks.  "I wanted to show you there was a fish there!"

"That's okay;"  mutters Anne as she glares at the blob of ice-cream melting into the water.  "I am sure it was a nice fish!"  she mutters.

Anne smiles.

"I was;"  she adds as she leans back.  "It was;"  she repeats as she watches the ice-cream sink deeper into the water until it is gone.
